Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind 2 picks up 15 years after Joel (Jim Carrey) and Clementine (Kate Winslet) decided to embrace their imperfect love. The memory-erasing company Lacuna Inc. has rebranded as “Aurora Labs” and now offers advanced services, including “Selective Memory Editing.” When Clementine experiences vivid dreams of moments she doesn’t recognize, Joel starts suspecting that someone has tampered with their memories again.

They soon discover that Aurora Labs has secretly accessed residual data from past clients to experiment with memory enhancements. Clementine’s ex-partner, David (played by Adam Driver), now works for Aurora Labs and offers Clementine a chance to erase the pain from her life, including her insecurities about Joel. Torn between the promise of emotional relief and the authenticity of her experiences, Clementine reluctantly agrees.

Joel, upon realizing what’s happening, infiltrates Aurora Labs to stop the procedure. However, during the process, Clementine and Joel become trapped inside a shared subconscious space, where they relive distorted versions of their past. Joel must convince Clementine to reject the artificial memories and escape the mental maze. In a climactic moment, they destroy their altered memories, escaping back to reality. The film ends ambiguously with Joel and Clementine sitting quietly in a park, unsure if their connection is genuine or another implanted emotion.
