John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019) picks up directly after the events of the second film. John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is declared “excommunicado” after killing a member of the High Table on Continental grounds, a sacred rule of the assassin underworld. With a $14 million bounty on his head, every assassin in New York City, and the world, is after him.
The movie starts with John on the run, racing against time to escape before the bounty activates. His first stop is to seek medical attention, but even that has limits as his grace period runs out. John moves through New York City, evading wave after wave of assassins using everything from books to horses as lethal weapons in his desperate struggle for survival.
John seeks refuge with an old ally, the Director (Anjelica Huston), who reluctantly helps him travel to Casablanca. In Morocco, John meets Sofia (Halle Berry), another former ally who owes him a blood oath. Reluctantly, Sofia agrees to help him meet with the Elder, the only person who outranks the High Table. John offers to sacrifice anything for a chance to clear his name, even severing his own finger as a sign of fealty.
Meanwhile, the Adjudicator (Asia Kate Dillon) arrives in New York to punish those who aided John in the past. Winston, the manager of the Continental (Ian McShane), and the Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne) are both given ultimatums—either step down or face severe consequences for breaking the rules.
In a climactic sequence, John returns to New York, where Winston chooses not to abdicate his position. A fierce battle ensues at the Continental, with John fighting waves of High Table enforcers. After surviving the siege, Winston shoots John in an unexpected betrayal, seemingly to solidify his position with the High Table. John falls off a building, but in the final moments, he is revealed to be alive, rescued by the Bowery King.
The film ends with John and the Bowery King preparing to launch a rebellion against the High Table, setting the stage for a larger conflict in future installments.
